In the wake of the very successful XII Summer Season of the Florence Dance Festival, by now a pivotal event for
lovers of the dance, the Winter Season opens on Tuesday, December 4th at the Teatro Goldoni in Florence.
This little Italianate theater, built during the reign of the Grand Duke of Lorraine, is located in the heart
of San Frediano, on Florence's "Left Bank", just a few steps from Porta Romana.
Our Opening Night
Performance at the Teatro Goldoni (Tuesday, December 4th , 8 p.m) is "Live in Concert" and to focus on our
re-interpretation of the opportunities this setting can provide, its theme is "Multimedialità".
The performance begins at 9 p.m.. It is the result of the continuing collaboration between the Florence Dance
Company and the pianist Stefano Maurizi's Shadows Ensemble. This is its première performance.
"Shadows" is a socio-cultural journey in dance, music and video which examines the disturbing events of our times
and searches for the basic values that both society and the individual can embrace through creativity and perseverance.
All of the evening's events will be broadcast live in streaming by Unit.Net and on-line www.digimusic.net.
On the 6th of December one of last year's most successful companies, the Milanese group, Corte Sconta, returns to the
Goldoni with a new show, "La Scala del Fuoco", commissioned by the Biennale di Venezia with the theme "Time & Time".
The Festival's program continues on Saturday,
December 8th (9 p.m.) and Sunday, December 9th (4 p.m) with "Absolute Bolero" with the Florence Dance Company and special
guest star Alessandro Molin, an eclectic spectacle that combines diverse musical and dance styles (from classic to hip hop,
from tango to jazz and rock) and was an outstanding success on the summer tournée.
The festival concludes with the first Florentine appearance by the Compagnia Ersiliadanza with "La Mandria",
a tale of anxiety and restlessness, evolution and transformation, failure to recognize the need for reflection -
signs of our times.
Artistic directors
Marga Nativo and Keith Ferrone dedicate special attention to professional preparation but they recognize, as well,
the importance of promoting and presenting dance to the young. "Invito alla Danza" is a presentation to students in
Florence.
In two mattinèe presentations (December 6 and 7 at 10 a.m.) there will be dialogues, dance demonstrations and
performances of all styles: Classical, tango, hiphop, contemporary. Everyone will be involved and encouraged to
experiment. And… a special guest: the singer Boris (of Sanremo fame)!
